Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is the largest EU program dedicated to education, training, youth, and sports and covers a new 2021–27 program period. It includes all European and international programs and EU initiatives in the field of education (i.e., general education, higher education, and adult education), training (vocational education and training), youth activities, and sports.
Erasmus+ is aimed at the consolidation of knowledge about, and at the skills of. the European citizens’ employability, as well as at the improvement of education, training, and work in the field of youth and sports. It is especially aimed at connecting education, training and the youth sector with the business sector, and is open to their joint projects.
Erasmus+ replaced seven existent 2007–13 generation programs: Lifelong Learning Program, with the Erasmus Subprogram; Leonardo da Vinci; Comenius and Grundtvig; Youth at Work Program; and five international cooperation programs named Erasmus Mundus; Tempus; Alfa; Edulink; and Cooperation Program, involving industrialized countries and territories. For the first time, support for the field of sports is also being introduced.
Erasmus+ offers the opportunities of individual international mobility and organizational international cooperation while studying or participating in a professional student practicum abroad.
As a part of the Erasmus+ Program, it is possible to realize mobility in the program countries. Program countries are the EU Member States (e.g., Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden) and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey.
Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek is a holder of the Erasmus+ Charter and is responsible for the implementation of the Erasmus+ Program. The University’s constituent units and their coordinators serve as an assistance in the implementation of incoming and outgoing mobilities.
The Erasmus+ coordinators at the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences are Prof. Ivana Majić, PhD, (academic), and Daniel Haman, LLD (administrative), and are available to students and (non‐)teaching staff of the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek.

The purpose of a stay abroad is study, professional practicum, or a combined study sojourn and a professional practicum.
The main objectives of the Erasmus+ Study Stay are as follows: acquisition of new experiences in the field of education, language, and culture; promotion of cooperation between higher educational institutions and organizations; education of students with international experience; facilitated mobility‐period recognition; and the transfer of credits while applying the ECTS credit system. The main purpose of a professional practicum abroad are as follows: adaptation to the specific requirements of the EU labor market; acquisition of specific skills; and better comprehension of economy and society through work experience.
All full‐ and part‐time students of the University of Osijek are eligible to apply for mobility.
A prerequisite for the realization of mobility for the purpose of a study stay is a concluded Erasmus+ interinstitutional agreement.
A prerequisite for the realization of mobility for the purpose of a professional practicum is a contract regulating professional practicum in the organizations in which the students will attend their professional practicums (i.e., their in‐service trainings).
The minimal duration of a mobility period for the sake of a study stay is three months, and the maximal stay lasts for twelve months.
The duration of a mobility period for the sake of a professional practicum is a minimally two months and maximally twelve months.
The duration of a mobility period for the sake of a combined study stay and professional practicum is minimally three months and maximally twelve months.
(Non‐)teaching Staff
For the teaching staff (i.e., the faculty), the purpose of a stay at a foreign institution is to deliver lectures in any scientific and artistic field and/or to hold classes or a professional training session, with an emphasis on the development of pedagogical and curricular skills in higher education. The purpose of a stay at a foreign institution for the non‐teaching staff is professional development for the performance of tasks defined by an employment or work contract.
All members of the teaching or non‐teaching staff who are employed with the University of Osijek on the basis of an employment contract, as well as the University of Osijek’s external aassociates who have a valid work or business cooperation contract, may apply.
The applicants must be the Croatian citizens or hav a citizenship of another country participating in the Erasmus+ Program.
The teachers who apply for a class‐holding activity should have a scientific‐teaching title, an artistic‐teaching title, or a teaching title. The employees enjoying a status of Junior Research Assitant or of a Teaching Assistant may apply for a class‐holding activity provided that they are involved in the delivery of lectures at a parent institution.
For a professional development activity, the applicants may be the members of a teaching or of a non‐teaching staff.
A prerequisite for the realization of mobility aimed at a delivery of classes classes and professional development at a foreign higher educational institution is an Erasmus+ interinstitutional agreement concluded between the University of Osijek and a receiving higher educational institution. The teacher is obliged to teach at least eight hours per week, or at least eight hours during a stay having a duration shorter than a week. It is unnecessary to conclude an Erasmus+ interinstitutional agreement for the implementation of professional development activities at an institution that does not enjoy the status of a higher educational institution.
The shortest length of mobility period for the sake of teaching is two days and the longest sixty days.
The length of a mobility period for the sake of professional training is minimally two days and maximally sixty days.
The days spent on traveling are not incalculated in a mobility period.
So far, the University has signed over a hundred Erasmus+ contracts with the agricultural and related universities/faculties in the program countries.
